Christmas is Almost Here!
Christmas is just a few days away! Between holiday get togethers, evening hot chocolate and egg nog runs, family baking traditions and an abundance of holiday candy at every turn, the opportunity for consuming too much sugar is all too easy. By the end of the week, you may feel fatigued, have mood swings, have difficulty sleeping, or just overall feel exhausted and achy from increased inflammation. While it is perfectly okay to indulge in a few of your favorite holiday desserts, we have compiled a list of our favorite healthy options to help you keep a balance and feeling your best as we head into the New Year!
Healthy Holiday Desserts
1) Baked Pears with Honey, Cranberries and Pecans – This is a winter favorite here at Health Designs! This recipe is sweet, a little spicy and comes with a little crunch, thanks to the pecans. It is sure to be a crowd favorite!
2.) Peppermint Meringues – These tasty and festive low-calorie confections make a delicious gluten-free addition to any cookie swap. Bonus, they are also super fun to make!
3) Warm Spiced Apple Cider – This is a great and healthy substitute for mulled wine or hot punch. It warms you right up and makes you feel nice and cozy for the holidays!
4.) Mendiants – This French, no-bake holiday dessert consists of dark chocolate, dried fruits like goji berries or apricots, and crushed nuts. Not only are these simple and healthy, but they look beautiful to serve to family and friends.
5.) Chocolate-Pistachio Orange Slices – Making your own dried orange slices, dipping them in white chocolate and sprinkling with crushed pistachios is a fun, unique and healthy new tradition to start this year! We can’t get over how delicious these treats are.
6.) Homemade Hot Chocolate – We absolutely love hot chocolate this time of year, but the packets you buy are loaded with sugar. That is why we use this healthy recipe instead! While it takes a little more time, it is delicious and guilt free.
